Downieville is the county seat of Sierra County, California. Downieville was settled inside 1849 during the California Gold Rush and is named fallowing William Downey, a Scotsman world health organization when ran the town's mining operation. Downieville reached the peak population of all over 5,000 people inside 1851 but declined sharply by 1865. Downieville is placed northwards of the Middle Fork of the Yuba River and was the original state capital of California prior to it moved to its todays location inside Sacramento.

Downieville occurs as popular mountain biking and hiking destination.
